Points Associated for Traffic Violations:
  • Any moving violation not listed below and not contributing to an accident - 1 pt
  • Following another vehicle too closely - 2 pts
  • Speeding in excess of the posted speed limit by 10 miles an hour or more - 2 pts
  • Driving with an improper class of license - 2 pts
  • Passing an emergency or police vehicle under the provisions of 21-405 of the

           Motor Vehicle Law - 2 pts

  • Failure to stop a vehicle for a steady red traffic signal in violation of the Motor Vehicle  

           Law - 2 pts

  • Failing to stop for a school vehicle with alternately flashing lights - 3 pts
  • Any moving violation contributing to an accident - 3 pts
  • Driving after suspension of license or under the traffic laws or regulations of

         another state - 3 pts

  • Any violation, excpet violations committed on the John F. Kennedy Memorial

         Highway - 3 pts

  • Speeding in excess of the posted speed limit by 30 miles an hour or more - 5pts
  • Driving while not licensed - 5 pts
  • Failure to report an accident - 5 pts
  • Driving unaccompanied on a learner's permit - 5 pts
  • Participating in a race or speed contest on a highway - 5 pts
  • Aggressive Driving - 5 pts
  • Speeding in excess of a posted speed limit of 65 miles an hour by 20 miles an

         hour or more 5 pts

  • Reckless Driving - 6 pts
  • Driving while impaired by an alcohol or impaired by a drug or a combination of

         drugs and alcohol - 8 pts

  • Turning off lights of a vehicle to avoid identification - 8 pts
  • Failing to stop after an accident resulting in damage to attend vehicle or

         property - 8 pts

  • Failing to stop after an accident resulting in damage to an unattended vehicle or

         property - 8 pts

  • Failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily injury or death - 12 pts
  • Driving after refusal, suspension, cancellation, or revocation of license or under  

         the traffic laws or regulations of another state - 12 pts

  • Driving after refusal, suspension, cancellation, revocation, or disqualification of

         license or driving privilege - 12 pts

  • Homicide, life threatening injury or assault committed by means of a

         vehicle - 12 pts

  • Driving while under the influence of alcohol or while impaired by any controlled

         dangerous substance - 12 pts

  • Any felony involving use of a vehicle - 12 pts
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer - 12 pts
  • The making of a false affidavit or statement under oath, or fasely certifying to the    truth of any fact or information to the administration - 12 points
  • Any violation involving an unlawful taking or unauthorized use of a motor

         vehicle - 12 pts
